Shirodhara Therapy
The main intent for this therapy is to re-activate the pineal gland (a small, almond-shaped structure, roughly the size of a pea) located deep inside the brain, between the left and right hemispheres. It is often calcified and this calcification disrupts our health and vitality tremendously. Re-activate the pineal gland!! This therapy includes a neck and scalp massage, face massage, foot massage, rebalancing techniques, tuning forks, etc., to accompany the warm mind melting oil pouring across the forehead, called Shirodhara. This is potentially one of the most “spiritually awakening” therapies on the planet and it is one of the most effective therapies. It raises consciousness, bliss, peace, removes stress and so much more. Shirodhara rejuvenates both the mind and the senses, which allow the body’s natural healing mechanisms to release stress from the nervous system, improve mental clarity and comprehension.
We use 1-2 quarts of pure therapeutic oils (sesame, avocado, sunflower, olive oil, etc.), infused with Brahmi, Ashwaghanda, Amla oil and a variety of therapeutic essential oils

The science of Ayurveda considers the human body an inverted tree, where the roots are at the top and the branches are pointing downwards. Here, the head is considered to be the roots, the thorax and the abdomen are said to be the trunk, and the limbs are the branches. Just like roots nurture a tree, the head is the operational center of the entire body. It consists of the brain which is the seat of consciousness and the sense organs with which we interact. Marmas, or life centers, are the vital points in the body where the Prana or energy is converted, regulated, and stored for use by the body and mind. They are also the sites of the Tridoshas – Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. It is generally accepted that there are around 107 Marma points throughout the body, where 12 are classified as Padu Marmas (vital life centers), many of which are located in the head and neck region. This shows how critical the head and neck region are to our physio-psychological functioning.

"It is clearly unique in this day and age to find a system of medicine that is thousands of years old and still one of the largest on the planet today. Ayurvedic medicine, although in its infancy here in America, has over 300,000 Indian doctors in the All Indian Ayurvedic Congress, making it the largest medical organization in the world."

Shirodhara is an ancient mind-melting warm oil therapy rooted in Ayurvedic concepts that give rise to elevated consciousness, expanded awareness, blissful sleep and healing for the entire mind-body-spirit paradigm. Ayurveda is a time-proven, evidence-based holistic medical system of self-healing. This is potentially one of the most “spiritually awakening” therapies on the planet. It raises consciousness, bliss, peace, removes stress and so much more. This particular shirodhara therapy is very unique because hot stones are added around the body to ground and center the person.
This therapy includes massage of the face, scalp and feet. This ancient therapy enlivens the “mind” or innate intelligence that lives in every cell in our body. It is a mind-melting experience, where it clears away negative thoughts by dispersing the negative electrical impulses that accumulate at our foreheads from overthinking and stress. It is one of the only therapies that assists in raising consciousness, allowing for spiritual and cellular activations within the physiology.

Shirodhara Therapy is offered at many medical wellness clinics, hospitals in the most elite beauty spas around the world. Some of the spas call it the Himalayan Treatment and others call it Soothing Forehead Therapy. Many medical spas are adopting this ancient therapy as a means for reversing the aging process and removing stress from the mind and physiology. If this therapy is done on a regular basis, it can transform one’s life on all levels. Ayurvedic and consciousness therapies such as shirodhara, are among the most subtle, yet, most powerful treatments for a plethora of disorders, but in the west, it is used mostly for developing a sense of well-being and restoring the harmony the weaves the body, mind and spirit together.
This therapy usually takes about 30-75 minutes and 2 quarts of oil, depending on the length and thickness of hair.

The Mental Health Benefits of Shirodhara
-
Stress Relief: Shirodhara effectively reduces stress by calming the mind and lowering cortisol levels. Deep relaxation is induced by the continuous flow of heated oil on the forehead. This soothing experience can help alleviate the effects of chronic stress, promoting a lasting sense of calm.
-
Improved Sleep: Shirodhara helps regulate the sleep-wake cycle by calming the nervous system. Individuals with insomnia or disturbed sleep will find it especially helpful. Many find it simpler to drift off to sleep and have deeper, more rejuvenating sleep after a session.
-
Anxiety Reduction: Shirodhara reduces anxiety by soothing the nervous system and lowering the body’s fight-or-flight response. The calming effect of the treatment helps ease both physical and mental symptoms of anxiety. Regular sessions can lead to a more balanced and peaceful state of mind.
-
Enhanced Mental Clarity: Shirodhara calms the mind and gets rid of mental clutter, which enhances focus and mental clarity. It can be especially beneficial for people with trouble focusing or clearing their minds. Over time, regular treatments can lead to improved cognitive function and sharper focus.
-
Alleviation of Depression Symptoms: Shirodhara can help alleviate some symptoms of depression, such as fatigue and irritability. The treatment’s calming effect on the nervous system supports overall emotional well-being. While not a substitute for professional treatment, it serves as a valuable complementary therapy.
-
Mood Stabilization: Shirodhara helps stabilize mood by balancing the body’s internal rhythms. The treatment encourages a state of emotional equilibrium, which can be particularly helpful for those experiencing mood swings. Over time, it promotes a more consistent and balanced emotional state.
-
Promotion of Emotional Healing: Shirodhara supports emotional healing by allowing the release of stored stress and pent-up emotions. The deep relaxation induced by the treatment fosters greater emotional resilience. Regular sessions can lead to a more balanced and stable emotional outlook. The Physical Health Benefits of Shirodhara
-
Alleviation of Headaches and Migraines: Shirodhara is highly effective in treating chronic headaches and migraines. The steady stream of heated oil relieves stress in the head and neck regions. This therapy significantly relieves headache pain by lowering its frequency and intensity.
-
Improvement in Skin Health: The medicated oils used in Shirodhara are often infused with herbs that nourish and rejuvenate the skin. These oils can help improve skin tone, reduce dryness, and enhance the skin’s natural glow. Regular treatments can lead to healthier, more radiant skin.

Hormonal Balance: Shirodhara has a balancing effect on the endocrine system, which can help regulate hormones. This is particularly beneficial for women experiencing hormonal imbalances related to menstruation, menopause, or thyroid issues. The treatment promotes overall hormonal health and balance.
-
Enhanced Circulation: The treatment promotes better blood circulation throughout the body. Improved circulation leads to better oxygenation of tissues, which supports overall physical health. This enhanced blood flow can also contribute to quicker healing and recovery from physical stress.
-
Reduction of Muscle Tension: The soothing effects of Shirodhara help reduce muscle tension and stiffness. The warmth and relaxation provided by the treatment allow muscles to relax, alleviating discomfort. This makes it an excellent option for individuals with chronic muscle pain or tension.
-
Support for Detoxification: Shirodhara can aid in the detoxification process by stimulating the lymphatic system. The treatment encourages the removal of toxins from the body, promoting overall physical well-being. Regular sessions contribute to a healthier, more balanced body.
-
Improvement in Digestion: Shirodhara supports digestive health by soothing the nervous system and alleviating stress-related digestive problems. This treatment is especially helpful for individuals dealing with conditions like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) or other digestion issues linked to stress. A more relaxed nervous system leads to better digestion and overall gastrointestinal health.

Why we need Bliss Therapies…
“Blissfulness is our birthright we just have to claim it and meditation is our claim. Meditation is simply preparing your home for the guest. The guest is already waiting at the door. My meditation is simple. It does not require any complex practices. It is simple. It is singing. It is dancing. It is sitting silently. Bliss is a gift from god. We cannot manufacture it. Nobody can become blissful on his own. We can allow it to happen but we cannot produce it. We can hinder it from happening – that is in our capacity – but we cannot manage, we cannot force, coerce it to happen.
It is as if in the morning the sun has risen, but you can go on remaining in your room with closed windows and closed doors and it is still dark for you. But this darkness is your own creation. All that is needed is to open the windows and the doors and the sun will start pouring. That is exactly the case with bliss: bliss is always there surrounding you. We live in the ocean of bliss, we are like fish in the ocean of bliss, but we don’t allow it to enter. We are very closed, we are window-less; hence the misery.”
